Garade door Remote “Rip-Off” and how to stop the rot

Okay I have not been here for some time…I guess time has got away with me.  I have just purchased a new house and found that the property come with a remote control for the garade door.  Great but it only come with one remote and we have 4 people that need one each to make it useful.

So after a couple of days investigating the brand (a german brand… not that that matters) and find out the it’s 433Mhz Rolling Code System.  So no problem we just find the local supplier and get a new remote.  $99 each + $10 postage was the answer.  Had a quick look around and there are heaps of remotes that are cheaper but niot for this particular model.

So I rang my friendly e-bay store owner who informs me that getting the remote to work with a rolling code system once one remote is already working is an issue.  But he had a solution.  Yes every problem needs a solution.  He will send a new receiver, two remotes (both on metal frames) for the sum of $99.  Great a solution at 50%, will have better range and best of all I can add more remotes…  $35 each with no postage and registered if I buy two together……

So in short almost all remote control doors has a circuit to add an external button (so you can open it from inside or add infradred sensors) Most also kindly supply a 24V power supply.  Most of the time they are easily accessable fromt he back of the unit..  With these two things a replacement receiver can be added (In addition to your existing one) so you get off the local supplier treadmill and gravy train.
